Thanksgiving

I have been sicker than a dog......I have no idea where that saying came from, but decided it was an appropriate way to describe my last few days. I haven't been "in bed for days" sick in a long time, and I had forgotten how much I hate it. I'm blaming the smallest child in the Westfall family for the germ; he was sick last week and nothing seemed to make him happy except for cuddling with his mama. Normally I love this, but I knew that as he was breathing his hot, three year old, germ breathe on me I was going to get sick. Today I woke up feeling like I got hit by a train, but I'm excited because that is an improvement. I have to say that it is a lot better being sick when you live in a place that you can call your mom and tell her your sick. My mom is really great at taking care of people when they are sick; my husband, on the other hand, is learning (he is great at so many other things....this just happens to be one of his weaknesses, but it is easily forgiven because he is so good-looking).

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!! In my medicine-head state I almost forgot that it's Thanksgiving. We are going to have a missionary potluck today at two, so I need to try and drag myself into the kitchen and try to make some food. Cassie told me she would help me, when did she get so old??? At home for Thanksgiving we have a tradition of going around the table and telling what we are thankful for; since I am in Africa, I have decided that all of you are going to be a part of that tradition. I will tell what I'm thankful for and then you comment back to me what you are thankful for, sounds like a fun game to me! Here goes.....

This year has taught me a great many things about myself and what I am most thankful for this year is that I serve an incredible God, that isn't content to leave me the way I am, but is constantly challenging me to become what He knows I can be. I am also Thankful that God has given me an amazing man to spend my life with...he not only is my husband, but my dearest friend and I am privileged to be his wife. I am thankful for the four children that the Lord has loaned us, words can't describe the joy they bring. I am thankful for Kenyans as they have taught me to be content with little, or abundance, to be generous no matter what you have, to be happy with who you are, and to RELAX (not everything is a big deal...enjoy life). So this Thanksgiving remember that the Lord has blessed us all abundantly, and praise Him for all that He has given!

I just got my kiddos in bed and Ben is asleep. I've been up cooking most of the afternoon and evening. I have been thinking about Thanksgiving all day and telling the Lord how deeply thankful I feel for His many blessings. I love Thanksgiving...what I love most about it is the long weekend I get to spend with my honey and my kids. We start with a party at mom and dads and then spend the rest of the weekend decorating the house for Christmas. It's a four day break that I look forward to every year! Some of the things I'm most thankful for this year is my sweet Benjamin, who keeps me laughing. I'm continually amazed how the Lord keeps blessing our marriage. My three sweet babes, who are gettin' older and funnier by the minute. I'm thankful for ministry...I stand in awe of what the Lord has done with Bens music and his paintings. And I love that the Lord has brought me back into leadership. I didn't realize how much I missed it. I love you Westfalls and thank the Lord for the example you six have been to me. Man what an adventure you're on. I get so excited for this time for you guys. How many people get to do what you guys are doing! I love you and hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!

I'm thankful for the little things in life. The small details that our God takes care of. We all know that He is a God of miracles and life change, but right now, I am in awe that He cares just as much about the small details in our lives as the big stuff...kids laughing, chocolate chip cookies, friends, coffee, blogs, etc.

What am I thankful for? There's so much I'm thankful for. I'll start with my awesome God. I'm so thankful I have a God that is right beside me no matter what life throws my way (i.e. kids moving to Africa plus much more). I'm thankful for your Dad. He is the love of my life. Thank you Lord for bringing us together. You six kids is another blessing God has given me. Three daughters born to us and three sons brought in by marriage. Of course I have to mention my nine perfect grands. They bring us such joy. I'm thankful for my sweet momma who has called me twice already this morning. The second time to see if I was watching the Thanksgiving parade because it's very good this year. Thank you Lord for my mom and Harvey. I have much more I'm thankful for but time (I haven't done one thing to get ready for today and reading Gretchie's response she's been cooking all day yesterday, I have some catching up to do) and space (I always write the longest responses) prevent me from continuing. Happy Thanksgiving.
It's eleven days until we pick you up. YEAH TEAM!!!!!

I am thankful for our dear sweet awesome Lord. He is the maker of all. I am thankful for my sight...to be able to see the beauty of His creation. I am thankful for my wonderful family ..each and everyone of them who just lighten up my life in their own unique way.
May all of you have a blessed Thanksgiving.
Hope you are feeling better by the hour, Julie.

After having friends and acquaintances in our lives who we repeatedly share our faith with and have them repeatedly refuse to give their heart to the Lord completely, I am so very thankful for my eyes and heart being opened to who Jesus truly is! Salvation truly is a gift and I'm so thankful for it.

Hi Julie,
We had a really quiet, relaxing Thanksgiving that was so needed for our family. I was thankful to have 2 full days with my honey at home and ours alone (Come Celebrate is around the corner and we are so excited to see what God's going to do, but with that we don't see him as much). As we talked about what we were thankful for around our table, I realized that I am thankful we've been here almost 2 yrs. and that's a great feeling. I'm thankful for a great God that loves me more than I can imagine and is my King with a real kingdom! I'm thankful for my family that is so close and happy to be together, and I'm thankful for the friends that God has brought our way here in Modesto and in Africa too. We can't wait to see you all!!
love ya, susie

I know I'm not American so it's not really our Thanksgiving (and you celebrated ours in October with your yummy-looking-but-solid-inside pie!) but I'm thankful too so thought I'd add to this. I'm so glad for all of God's blessings, and my hubby and kids are at the top of the list, but I'm also so grateful for friends. Old friends who accept you as you are, warts and all, plus new friends who meet your needs just perfectly at the time that you need them met. I'm grateful for how the Lord takes care of us. I will pray you are completely better, Ju, and I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving!
